Consoris: running a product alone, from analysis to delivery

A web app that helps students and part-time workers track their hours and earnings across several employers, and helps students stay within their hours quota. I run it alone, from working out the need to putting it live.

25 releases, ready for its first testers.

Every release passes the same automated checks before going live, and every important decision is written down, with its reasons.

The challenge

A working student often has several employers, hourly rates that change and an hours quota they must not exceed, or they lose the advantages of their status. Tracking apps count the hours, but they answer the real questions poorly: what did I earn, what will I earn, and how many hours do I have left?

The challenge: building this product alone, with no team to review or test behind me, and keeping it reliable from one release to the next.

The business process

Consoris's business process, in BPMN notationThe worker sets up the job (hourly rate, breaks), then logs each shift (times, break, tips). Consoris applies the rate in force on the shift's date and computes the pay (breaks, overtime, premiums). If an hours limit or the student quota is exceeded, it warns the worker. It then updates the earnings tracking and the forecast: the shift is tracked.workerConsorisnoyesnew jobshift trackedlimit exceeded?Set up the jobhourly rate, breaksLog a shifttimes, break, tipsApply the dated ratethe rate in force that dayCompute the paybreaks, overtime, premiumsWarn the workerquota or hours capUpdate the trackingearnings, forecast

What I brought

  • understanding the need

I turned real situations into precise rules: several employers, paid or unpaid breaks, a raise that leaves past pay unchanged.

  • running the project

I broke the work into small deliveries, defined when a task is ready and when it is done, and wrote down every important decision with its reasons.

  • shipping reliable software

Every change goes through automated tests and quality checks; if one of them fails, nothing goes live.

What it says about how I work

  • I run a project end to end, from the need to published releases.
  • I write decisions down, so their reasons can still be found months later.
  • I build quality in from the start, not at the end.

Consoris is in alpha and awaits its first testers: this page shows the approach, not usage results.
